Application deadline: 15 January 2025

The Master of Landscape Architecture and Master of Science in River-Coastal Science and Engineering (MLAN-MS RCSE) is a one-of-a-kind dual degree that creates a new pathway for students interested in pursuing a career in landscape architecture and engineering, informed by both urban and architectural design and science and engineering.

The design studio, co-taught by professional engineers and landscape architects, is the academic vehicle in which the sciences, engineering and landscape architecture components are combined to solve site-specific problems.

Here iterative processes of trial and error are set in motion, looking for solutions for equations that not only include quantitative variables but also several qualitative spatial and formal variables.

Upon graduation, students will be able to assess urban and territorial scale challenges and develop projects aimed at transforming landscapes in a changing climate.

These projects will emphasize urban ecological principles at the intersection of urbanization and natural systems and a high degree of technical and scientific resolution.

Graduates will also be skilled in collaborating with fellow scientists, engineers and landscape architects, as well as various stakeholders in both natural and built environments.

As part of this interdisciplinary landscape architecture and engineering program, housed in a leading research university, students will advance pioneering design research and cutting-edge problem-solving within the built environment.

Location: Ås, Oslo Fjord, Norway
Course dates: August 2025 to June 2027
Application deadline: 1 November 2024 for international students and 15 April 2025 for national/EU students

The Master in Landscape Architecture for Global Sustainability is a two-year full-time Master of Science course acknowledged by the International Federation of Landscape Architects.

Based in a Life Science university, the program is research-, question- and project-driven.

The core of the curriculum is project work developed in a sequence of three studios, culminating in a thesis.

The program attracts students from different parts of the world. Group work provides opportunities for the exchange of intercultural experiences and knowledge.

Courses will cover contemporary concerns and a suite of methods as well as knowledge about working internationally and experiencing cultural differences.

We encourage students to explore and develop contemporary ways of working that advance landscape architecture as a productive, generalist profession between science and artistic methods.

These methods involve an iterative design process with regular advising, presentations and feedback.

The curriculum has a research focus and spans across design, landscape ecology, theory and history.

The program builds upon prior degrees (BA or MA) in landscape architecture and related studies to an advanced level of landscape architecture in the context of a globalized world.

The program consists of an introductory course, a theory course, and a series of three studio courses with a focus on design-research-driven projects.

There are also additional elective classes across the Life Science University.

Graphic Design MA at Estonian Academy of the Arts

The Graphic Design MA course at Estonian Academy of the Arts requires students to produce graphic design work that reflects their own style and host collaborative exhibitions and workshops.

School: Estonian Academy of the Arts
Course: Graphic Design MA
Location: Tallinn, Estonia
Course dates: September 2025 to June 2027
Application deadline: 3 March 2025

The Graphic Design MA program at the Estonian Academy of Arts (EKA) is intended to develop a student's practice and define their position as a graphic designer.

The programme takes an expanded view of graphic design, seeing it as a form of knowledge production whose role can be understood as a way of "making things public".

The programme provides opportunities for students to work through traditional models of graphic design, including books, websites, posters, typefaces and videos, and also to publish texts, organise exhibitions, host lectures, teach workshops, and create other contexts for exchange during their studies.

The interests and concerns of the student will be placed at the centre of studies through the making of a body of work which considers their relationship to form, content, production, and distribution of information.

While this will identify itself differently for each student, what they will share in common is a form of practice which is self-reflective, process-oriented, collaborative, and one that consistently holds an honest position in response to the fluctuating conditions of work as a graphic designer.

Location: Florence, Italy
Course dates: 19 to 28 July 2024
Application deadline: 31 May 2024

Learn about restoration in architecture in Florence, Italy.

The fourth edition of 'Reuse the Ruin', the summer workshop in Florence organized by Reuse Italy Benefit Corporation, will take place in the summer of 2024, 19-28 July. Architecture students and young architects from around the world will gather in Florence to meet some of the best European architects and university professors in the reuse field.

Following in the footsteps of its three successful predecessors, the 'Reuse the Ruin' is a dynamic summer course meticulously crafted to offer a comprehensive experience in architectural restoration, spanning from theory to practice. It adopts a multidisciplinary approach to cover the breadth and nuances of restoration projects through a diverse range of activities.

The experience enables participants to engage with the concept of "reuse" in architectural design through an abandoned ruin. Following a site visit to this year's case study, the 'Rocca di Sala' in Pietrasanta, a city renowned for its art and artists, participants will develop a reuse proposal for the ruin during a design studio, with lectures and critiques.

New insights gained from the lectures will be applied in hands-on practical workshop sessions, guided by the teaching staff of leading academic and international firms. The event will close with the final public exhibition of the projects and the publication of a book. As a novel addition, the participation offers an introductory online course on the history and theory of restoration, to be watched on-demand before the event.

The international teaching staff includes HArquitectes, Carles Enrich, Markus Scherer, Zamboni Associati, Assemble Studio, Studio Wok, Prof. Maurizio De Vita and other local architects and scholars.

The Sustainable Design MA welcomes designers wanting to direct their existing practice towards ambitious visions of a more sustainable, inclusive and equitable society.

Our established, multi-disciplinary course will enable you to raise your sustainability literacy, and design meaningful responses to the challenges of unsustainability that move you the most.

Our graduates challenge the design industry to redesign design. As a course, we ask – What's next for design thinking that addresses the climate emergency? What's next for design innovation that imagines more sustainable futures? What's next for design practice that questions what we design, how we design and why we design?

We explore innovative, practical, provocative and speculative ways to help realise sustainable visions. We think through making, testing, questioning and imagining. And we think critically, holistically and sensitively about the global perspectives and diverse agendas of sustainability.

Within our projects, we collaborate with specialist organisations, industry partners and other courses in our design school. Through the course, you’ll engage with research techniques and ethics, user-centred and participatory methods, experimental making, prototyping and user testing. You'll be encouraged to bring your personal interests to projects – to explore aspects of sustainability that resonate with you and to become a citizen designer.

Course dates: September 2025 to June 2028
Application deadline: 31 January 2025

At AUB, we understand architecture as being part of a larger creative story involving people, making, culture and the context of places within evolving landscapes. Indeed, architecture is an expression of society and can be read in the way we plan, construct, use, demolish and preserve it.

Whether you are from an arts or technical background, you’ll enjoy making physical models at various scales, critical thinking and drawing, and visualising in analogue and digital realities. The architecture degree will help you contribute to addressing the many essential challenges of our time; social, cultural, environmental and humanistic. Your architectural thinking will manifest creative work in the beautiful and distinctive conditions that our region presents: coastal, countryside and urban.

The complexity to be found in the communities and conurbations along the Dorset Jurassic Coast represents a unique opportunity for testing your most speculative ideas, to explore the immeasurable potential of architecture in a place where it is less likely to be found. Consequently, AUB’s regional study of architecture in the context of an arts university can be applied further afield in local, national and international contexts from the past to the present and the future.

School: Istituto Marangoni
Course: MA Interior Design
Location: London, UK
Course dates: October 2024 to January 2026
Application deadline: 31 October 2024

The MA Interior Design programme is designed to have a strong focus on contemporary interior design practice through the study of residential, retail, hospitality and exhibition design interior environments.

Ethical design is at the forefront of contemporary interior design practice through material selection and innovation, material waste considerations, construction methods, renewable energy sources and overall environmental considerations through a 'cradle to cradle' design approach.

School: Estonian Academy of the Arts
Course: Art and Design PhD
Location: Tallinn, Estonia
Course dates: September 2025 to June 2029
Application deadline: 31 March 2025

The Art and Design PhD programme at the Estonian Academy of Arts focuses on research through art and design, which contains a high-level research-based creative activity with a supporting analytical text. Creative activity generally consists of three publicly reviewed art or design cases.

This four-year doctoral study concentrates on practice-based or practice-led research projects culminating with a public defence and is supported by general studies, specialised studies and electives.

At the start of the PhD studies, the emphasis is on subjects intensifying the doctoral candidate’s knowledge of methodological and philosophical framing of the thesis, as well as research tools and context.

Later students focus on their PhD thesis, which is based on independent research and developmental or creative work.

The program encourages students to choose subjects from outside the academy’s doctoral school and enhance their experience through academic exchange.

The topics of interest of the university include art and design concerning society and digitalization, gender studies through artistic practice, figurative and metaphorical thinking, expanded scenography, as well as meaning-making through art and design, social design, public-social space, sustainability and ecocriticism.

Other topics are related to innovation through design, crafts and applied arts, sensorial design and the development of biomaterials.

School: Estonian Academy of the Arts
Course: Urban Studies MSc
Location: Tallinn, Estonia
Course dates: September 2025 to June 2027
Application deadline: 3 March 2025

The Master of Urban Studies at the Estonian Academy of Arts is a two-year English-language program that focuses on contemporary urbanism.

The program combines history, theory and practice to rethink prevailing understandings of urbanization, and to contribute to building more equitable urbanisms than the current ones.

The main premise of the program is that the subject of urban studies is irreducible to the city: the global urban arena today, more than ever before, is where struggles over our collective future play out.

This transdisciplinary program builds on insights from critical urban geography, urban planning and architectural history.

Urbanism is seen through the conceptual lenses of socio-spatial dialectics and uneven urban development.

Themes addressed in the program include housing and gentrification, urban nature and ecology, and infrastructure and global networks.

Urban Studies MSc will introduce you to the basics of urban design and planning, as well as to a range of skills such as how to conduct fieldwork, write about urbanism and develop urban strategies.

The art school/architectural department where you will study provide a great environment to combine critical thought and creative imagination.

Location: Bournemouth, UK
Course dates:  September 2025 to June 2028, with the option of a one-year placement
Application deadline: 29 January 2025

BA (Hons) Interior Architecture and Design for Health and Wellbeing focuses on the re-integration of people's health and wellbeing into everyday environments: where we live, where we work, where we learn and where we relax, both physically and mentally.

During this course, you'll place human-centred design at the heart of everything you do to transform environmental experiences from debilitation to invigoration.

The NHS and other care providers will increasingly need design graduates who are skilled in the production of these spaces and facilities.

With an estimated market value in the UK of over £150 billion, the design of healthy environments is being sought by care providers as well as being demanded by employees across commercial sectors.

During the course, you'll learn and apply new knowledge in the design and planning of healthy spaces and places, taking into consideration their use and the ever-evolving role of new technologies.

You'll graduate from this course as a designer with a complete understanding of the impacts design choices have on health and wellbeing as well as the necessary tools, knowledge and skills to support yourself in creating healthier places for all of us – for now and for the future.
